Mr Smiths information
Tite was Smith of ye Ordnance & lived in Hodkins house & Hodkgkins succeeded him before the civil war began upon king Charles's coming from Scotland.
Martin lived in the little house at ye end of ye mill house wch is now a little {illeg}store house in ye possession of Mr Silvester he was Smith of ye Mint & was also succeeded by Hodgkins A. C. 1644
When Hodgkins came in wth a Patent {illeg}old Capt. Sherburn said to who was then Clerk to ye Ordnance said to the Surveyor of ye Ordnance that he must deliver to Hodgkins {illeg}possession of all, meaning of ye house & shops
Mr Wm Pellet iron monger at the Mermaid at ye lower end of St Dunstans Hill at ye upper end of TowerThames street was at ye making of ye bargain between Mr Hodgkins & Mr Silvester.
Mr Hodgkins after yehe sold his Smith of ye Ordnances place continued Smith of ye mMint till his death or at least for some years & {illeg} Mr Smith was his partner & Mr Hodkins reserved a room inSilvesters house to lye oin {illeg}& two fires in ye upper shop to do ye work of ye Mint in, Mr Smith being then his partner And after his death Mr Silvester succeeded him. And Mr Smith believeds that Mr Hodgkins Silvester succeded {sic} in the Sallary of 10℔ per {illeg}an. Mr Smith bel{illeg}eives {sic} that Mr Hodgkins & Mr Silvester did ye gross Smiths {illeg}work. Mr Hodgkins made & hardned ye stamps & ye stakes but did not fourge ye stamps but Iohnson was Diemaker till they began upon ye milled money. And then Iohnson made & hardned ye Dies. But Hodgkins had ye Salary of 10℔ ꝑ an till his dying day & reserved it to himself when Mr Smith became his partner wch was when Mr Silvester entered upon the place.
Mr Bateman Wheelewright to ye Office of Ordnance rememberesd Tite his god father & is sure that Tite lived in the Silvesters house when Martin was Smith of ye Mint & li{illeg}ved in ye house at ye end of ye Mill room.
Mr Oliver Surveyer of ye Kings works was Glasier to ye Mint
Mr Hodgkins partner to Sr Iohn Sweetapple at ye black Boy in Lumbard street
Es Cash of {illeg}Hackney in Grove street was Carpenter to ye Mint otill about 1666 {illeg}his dead but his son may have some of his Bills.
