Civit Cestr Ss. The Examination of John Deverill taken before the Mayor of Chester &c.t October 3. 1704.

John Deverell Goldsmith upon his Examination confesseth that he was born at Swanburn in Buckinghamshire, serv'd his apprenticeship in S.t Pauls Church yard London with James plestow deceased. about twenty years agoe, and that Since his Apprenticeship he wrought journey :work in London, for the most part with Robert Selby Goldsmith on Ludgate hill, that he was Imprison'd about two years agoe in the Marshallsea Southwark for debt, and was released by Act of Parliament that he came from Lond.o on Satturday last was Sennight, with an Intent to goe for Ireland, went to Park Gate to take Shipping, but wanting the opportunity of a fair wind returned back to Chester, in Order to return from London, haveing altered his resolution of goeing for Ireland, & this Examinant further saith that he bought 45. false and Counterfeit Lewisd'ors on Munday last at Park-Gate for 12.d a peice but cannot tell of whome he bought them, save that the man told him that he came from Ireland. 42. of which Lewis d'ors were found upon this Examinant this day, One other he changed this Morning with the Hostler at the Golden Talbot in Chester for Silver but what is become of the other two this Examinant cannot tell.           John Deverell Capt. die et an̄ Suꝑdict coram Edw.d Partington Mayor
